One of the world’s finest collections of early American quilts will be on view at the Milwaukee Art Museum May 22–September 6, 2010. This is the first-ever travelling exhibition of Winterthur’s quilts, featuring stunning examples of exceptional artistry which have never been exhibited before. American Quilts: Selections from the Winterthur Collection documents women’s political, social, and cultural lives in the formative period of the early American republic (1760–1850).

Kids and grown-ups learn about and make art side by side in this fun-filled class, which includes an interactive tour and a hands-on art activity.

This month’s class will focus on artists represented in the Museum’s Collection who used color to create a mood, and then students will make their own expressive abstract creations.

Ages 6–10, accompanied by an adult.

Discover ways to connect your love of writing and art! In this four-day workshop, you will be able to infuse your writing with inspiration from the Museum's Collection, other young writers, and the Milwaukee Writing Project teachers you meet. You will receive a writer's notebook to fill with creative insights, and at least one polished piece to take home! Classes meet Saturdays from 10:15 a.m.-12 p.m. from September 18 through October 16 (four sessions).
