Summer Art Camps for Kids


Make plans now to maximize your child’s creativity in one (or more!) of the Museum’s inventive Art Camps. Kids can develop their artistic side while exploring the Museum’s collection and creating art. There’s something for everyone—from painting and drawing to mixed-media and sculpture. Drawing and Printmaking Art Camp

Investigate the Milwaukee Art Museum’s large and unique collection of prints—including a focus on the special exhibition—Warrington Colescott: Cabaret, Comedy, and Satire. Develop drawing techniques and learn the fun process of printmaking. Young artists in this camp will create prints using techniques such as etching, relief, and monoprinting while learning about printmaking’s rich history.

Painting Art Camp

Explore the diverse painting styles and subjects in the Museum’s Collection. Young artists in this camp will learn a variety of painting techniques with watercolor, tempera and acrylic as they discover the stories behind some of their favorite paintings in the Museum.

Art and Music Exploration Camp

Join us for an exciting collaboration with the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music as we explore connections between music and art! Each morning starts at the Conservatory for small group instruction on piano, percussion, harp guitar and musicianship and rhythm skills through Dalcroze methodology. Afternoons are spent at the Milwaukee Art Museum with additional instrument sampling on the recorder, as well as gallery walks to explore visual movement, emotion, color and composition in painting and sculpture. The afternoon concludes with studio time to create our own responsive artworks. Transportation between the Conservatory and the Museum is provided. No experience necessary!

Art in 3-D: Sculpture Camp

Discover the third dimension of art! Inspired by the Museum’s vast collection of indoor and outdoor sculptures, young artists will work with clay, wire and other mixed media to create their own sculptural masterpieces.

Sampler Art Camp I

Enhance drawing, painting and mixed media techniques while exploring all kinds of art-making experiences in this sampler art camp. Students will begin drawing with pencil and oil pastels, try their hand at painting with watercolor or acrylics, and then work with mixed-media to create multi-dimensional compositions. And of course, projects will take inspiration from the Museum’s collection and special exhibitions, including American Quilts: Selections from the Winterthur Collection.

Sampler Art Camp II

This camp will continue an exploration of drawing, painting and mixed media techniques with all-new projects. This class may be taken as a continuation of Sampler Art Camp I, or on its own.

Art of Nature Camp

Explore how artists have been inspired by flora and fauna in the Museum’s Collection. Discover nature in art both tiny and huge, including works from the special exhibition, Intimate Images of Love and Loss: Portrait Miniatures. Young artists in this camp will make both two-dimensional and three-dimensional projects in these fun-filled sessions.

To register for classes, call 414-224-3803. Class fees include supplies, unless otherwise noted. MAM's class fees include admission to the Museum's galleries on the day of each session. All registration closes five working days prior to class start date. If you cancel 24 hours prior to the first session of class, there is a cancellation fee of 50% of the price of the class.
