Target Family Sundays

Experience art together by enjoying a special performance or making a work of art to take home. Target Family Sundays are scheduled on select Sundays from 12 Noon–4 p.m throughout the year. Beginning in March, 2009, Target Family Sundays begins a new earlier schedule! Instead of starting at 12 Noon, Target Family Sundays begins when the Museum doors open at 10 a.m. (FREE with museum admission.)

Target Family Sundays: Midsummer Garden Party
July 26, 2009 | 10 AM–4 PM

Travel back to the beginning of the 20th century to a more tranquil time for a day of summertime fun. Enjoy period music, leisure pastimes, daily activities, and prizes. Come early, bring a picnic lunch, and stay all day. Today's activities are inspired by the American Originals exhibition.

Activities include indoor and outdoor art workshops and games. Look for the GIANT pinwheel and create a small one of your own. Design a flying machine or a sailboat to float in the fountain. Stop by the Friends of Boerner Botanical Gardens station to create paper posies and Samara flyers, or pick up a sketchpad and draw the sailboats on the lake. Fancy, flowery hats and insect pins are also on the menu.

Celebrating nearly 100 years are the Girl Scout and Boy Scout organizations. Check out the vintage scout paraphernalia on display.

Target Family Sundays: Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)
October 18, 2009 | 10 AM–4 PM

Experience the comical folk art, lively music, and tasty treats of the colorful Mexican celebration—Día de los Muertos. Create your own versions of the colorful papel picado (paper banners) and dancing skeletons, or sample some traditional Day of the Dead bread and cookies. Contribute to the communal altar, which will later be installed in the Latino Arts Incorporated Day of the Dead exhibit at the United Community Center. Visit the installation of traditional ofrendas, as you learn more about this wonderful holiday. Hands-on workshops, prizes, and fun are all on the menu today!

Target Family Sundays: Holiday Time with Uncle Andy (Warhol)
December 6, 2009 | 10 AM–4 PM

Visit the wacky and wonderful world of Andy Warhol in this holiday event. Experiment with spaghetti prints, Pop portraits, and traditional Pop Art images to create interesting and unusual holiday items to give or to cherish. All inspired by the feature exhibition, Andy Warhol: The Last Decade. Pop in for a little while or stay all day!

Free with Museum admission and for children twelve and under.
Free for Boys and Girls Club members and their families with membership card.
