Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and Museum Tour


“Music for Me!” and the Museum
Grades K4 - 2
Attend a Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra (MSO) performance on May 20, 2008, and then visit the Milwaukee Art Museum for a related docent-guided tour. This season, the MSO introduces children to Saint-Saëns’ beloved suite, Carnival of Animals, performed with narration. The Museum offers the theme-related Animals in Art tour in conjunction with the MSO program. Your students will discover a menagerie of friendly and fantastic beasts from different cultures and time periods.

“MSO Passport: Journeys Through Music” and the Museum
Grades 3 - 8
Attend a Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra (MSO) performance, and then visit the Milwaukee Art Museum for a related docent-guided tour. This season, the MSO Youth Series theme is “MSO Passport: Journeys Through Music.” Concert 1 is Journey Through Motion (October 16 and 23, 2007); Concert 2 is Journey Through Imagination (January 29, 30 and 31, 2008); and Concert 3 is Journey Through Travel (April 8, and 9, 2008). The Museum offers the following three theme-related tours in conjunction with the corresponding MSO Youth Series concert for your students:

A Sense of Motion explores how artists use actual motion and the illusion of motion in their work through kinetic energy and the elements and principles of art.
(Schedule in conjunction with Concert 1 – Journey Through Motion)

Storytelling in Art helps students imagine, tell, and listen to stories portrayed by artists in their work.
(Schedule in conjunction with Concert 2 – Journey Through Imagination)

World Communities investigates Western and non-Western art depicting and/or representing everyday life. Students will discover similarities, differences, and cross-cultural influences.
(Schedule in conjunction with Concert 3 – Journey Through Travel)

MSO Masterworks” and the Museum
Grades 7 - 12
Attend a Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra (MSO) performance, and then visit the Milwaukee Art Museum for a related docent-guided tour. Concert 1 is Handel’s Messiah (November 27, 2007) and Concert 2 is The Planets (April 17, 2008). The Museum offers the following two theme-related tours in conjunction with the MSO program for your students.

Religion and Art explores works of art that reflect belief systems from many places and times.
(Schedule in conjunction with Concert 1 – Messiah)

Journey to Infinity highlights works of art that reflect images and ideas of our imagination, world, universe, and beyond.
(Schedule in conjunction with Concert 2 – The Planets)

Contact the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra to schedule your visit for a musical performance at 414-291-6010, and then call the Milwaukee Art Museum at 414-224-3842 to schedule your concert theme-related tour of the Museum’s Collection. Museum tours may be scheduled on the day of the musical performance or on another day within three weeks after the performance. There are no food facilities available at the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. Limited Museum tours are available the day of the concert.
