First Stage Production of Ferdinand the Bull and Animals in Art Tour at the Museum
Grades 3-8
March 4, 2008 | 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Attend First Stage Children’s Theater’s theatrical performance of Ferdinand the Bull by playwright Karen Zacarias, and then discover a menagerie of friendly animals and fantastic beasts from different cultures and time periods through a docent-guided tour of the Museum’s Collection. Both the performance and tour take place at the Milwaukee Art Museum.
Based on the book The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf and Robert Lawson, Ferdinand the Bull is the story of a bull who doesn’t want to fight and butt heads like all the other bulls: he just wants to take care of his beloved flowers. But when the belligerent Duque Dodo comes looking for the toughest bull in all of Spain to fight in Madrid, he mistakenly picks Ferdinand. This bilingual Flamenco-flavored musical showcases messages of non-violence and uniqueness.
This school tour program is 2 hours in length. Students first attend the theatrical performance, which includes a talk-back session, and then participate in a docent-guided tour in the galleries. The special program fee is $7 per student and chaperone, which includes Museum admission. Call the Milwaukee Art Museum at 414-224-3842 to reserve seats for your school group and to schedule your docent-guided tour. Limited seating available.
