A Concise History of Western Art
Grades 11-12
Using the Museum’s Collection, the Satellite High School Program: A Concise History of Western Art is a brisk and succinct survey of Western art, from antiquities to conceptual art. Through engaging discussions led by Museum staff, the story of Western art unfolds in its full historical, social, religious, economic, and cultural context. During the semester each student reflects on works of art through weekly journaling activities and selects and studies four individual works of art from the Collection. Each work is studied in-depth and presented with an aesthetic response to the group, deepening students’ personal understanding of visual art.
