Grades 11–12
The Satellite High School Program explores Western art history using the extensive collections of the Milwaukee Art Museum, from antiquities to contemporary. Through engaging discussions led by Museum staff, the story of Western art unfolds in its full historical, social, religious, economic, and cultural context. Students deepen their personal understanding of visual art through individual work, which focuses on anartwork in the collection and is completed throughout the semester. This work culminates in a presentation to the group, along with an aesthetic response. In addition, students are introduced to the array of careers in the museum profession.
Time: Wednesdays, 1:30–3:00 p.m., September 2009–January 2010, with the exception of school holidays and exam days.
Place: Milwaukee Art Museum galleries (700 N. Art Museum Dr., Milwaukee, WI 53202).
The Satellite High School Program is a free program; however, transportation to the Museum and supplies are the responsibility of the student and/or school. Upon completion of the program, each student receives a certificate of completion.
