High School Internships


The Milwaukee Art Museum invites arts-interested teens to apply for a paid summer internship. Six students will be chosen to work behind the scenes at the Museum in a department that best fits their interests and experience, and participate as a group in weekly seminars that focus on the inner workings of a museum, the permanent collection of the Milwaukee Art Museum, and careers in the arts. Museum staff will act as mentors and supervisors to each student. Departments participating in the summer 2010 program are: Education, Curatorial Library/Archives, Visitor Services, and Communications.

Hours + Scheduling

The dates for this six-week program are June 28–August 7, 2010. Interns will be required to complete a total of 100 hours during the summer, including time in their individual departments and weekly seminars that will take us “behind the scenes” of the museum as well as provide an introduction to museum careers. Students will be provided bus passes for transportation to and from the Museum during their internship.

Application Procedure

The student must be a rising junior or senior in high school and a resident of the city of Milwaukee. The student does not need to attend an MPS high school. It is preferred, but not required, that the student qualify for reduced or free lunch. To apply, the student should:
