Dear Friends of the Milwaukee Art Museum,
We at the Museum are proud to present programs of the highest caliber to the Milwaukee community. Your interest and participation are cornerstones of this institution. With that in mind, we would like to make a special appeal to you, as a friend of the Milwaukee Art Museum, to make a donation to the 2009 Museum Fund. Make your donation by June 30 and your contribution will be generously matched by the Museum’s Friends of Art support group.
The Museum has had an exceptional year, with the world premiere of Act/React: Interactive Art, the much-anticipated arrival of new Chief Curator Brady Roberts, and the international renown for Jan Lievens: Out of Rembrandt’s Shadow, curated by newly appointed Director of Exhibitions Laurie Winters—and during which the Museum welcomed more than 60,000 visitors! Despite our success, like so many non-profit institutions, the Milwaukee Art Museum faces shortfalls in income received through donations, our endowment, and earned revenue.
We have taken a number of steps to trim expenses: adjusted exhibition schedules, changed days of operation (closed Mondays except select holidays), instituted a hiring freeze, and strategically cut programming that was having limited impact on the community. These measures have been taken to ensure our ability to continue to provide you with high-quality and meaningful art experiences. This summer, we have a double feature exhibition, American Originals (The Artistic Furniture of Charles Rohlfs and The Eight and American Modernisms). In addition, this fall’s highly anticipated Andy Warhol: The Last Decade examines the artist at a time of great productivity and accomplishment, and is sure to be a favorite.
Please consider making a contribution today so that we can continue to inspire you day after day. As an added incentive, any contribution made before June 30 will be matched dollar for dollar by Friends of Art.
Donations of $100 or more entitle you and a guest to an exclusive architectural tour of the Calatrava-designed addition to the Museum. We truly appreciate your support during this challenging time.
