Brad and Amber attended the opening. They said a lot of people asked them “how does it feel to be famous?”. Odd in light of the title of the exhibition.

According to the Devil’s Dictionary, Famous is defined as “conspicuously miserable.”

yeah, but we ARE famous! i’ve been famous for half my life now. today on a record collector message board people were discussing variations of the sleeve for our first 7″ record cover, circa 1996, featuring photos by shimon/lindemann. what was being discussed was the song titles on some copies of the record having a tiny fold in the corner. this was something i had typed and pasted on, and on some copies a little bit of the corner, maybe 1/4″ had been folded over. now these record collector nerds are having to buy both copies of the record just to get this variation, and thats not cheap considering when it is available for sale it generally sells in the $50 price range.

amber may not be famous yet, but as for myself, i have played on about 20 vinyl records and am considered by many to be a local legend. magazine covers(more shimon/lindemann pics), worldwide distribution of thousands of records, released steadily over the past dozen years, countless bands. the art show was awesome but its not like i’ve never been in front of an audience before, its just a different audience and thats what makes it so cool!

and i have no doubt that the porch honkees will withstand the test of time. thanks to the free money video (yet again, thanks shimon/lindemann) and our selections on the gonerfest DVD our live freak show has been properly saved for posterity. a well edited film video was one of my goals in music, as was a live multi camera shot and both have been achieved through the porch honkees band.

It’s only the Milwaukee Art Museum venue that’s new to Brad X! He has documented his art and music projects in sound, words, still photographs and video (check out his many short videos on YouTube sometime for a sample of his enormous body of work). When Brad invited us to guest DJ his Garagepunk.com “Get Drunk and Play Records” show a couple years ago, his downloads plummeted after we played “T.R. Special” by The Nite-Cappers (a song about Northeastern Wisconsin), the Chordettes, The Robs and other obscure 45s by Wisconsin bands from our collection. He never held it against us! Amber is a talented musician, poet and performer. She “sparkles” even on the job at Papa John’s Pizza. Her take on life has SAVED US. They are comrades.
