Unparalleled in its scale and ambitious technique, LaToya M. Hobbs’s series of five monumental woodcuts Carving Out Time offers insight into the life of an artist and mother who is balancing her practice and family commitments. The cycle is both immediately relatable and complex, dealing with questions related to artistic production, identity and representation, labor and work, legacy, motherhood and parenthood, and time.
